Multi-Purpose and Meeting Room Facility

The library presently provides for various community uses such as tutoring, summer programs for children, story-time, crafts, and meetings. There are often upwards of 50 children involved in the summer reading program. Enough room must be planned for in the new library to accommodate these uses.

The multi-purpose area should be accessible after hours without allowing access to the library proper. It must have access to washrooms. It should also contain an area for coffee services, cloak room, storage areas for tables and chairs separate from the actual meeting room. Below is a chart summarizing the minimum space requirements for such an area.

Attached kitchen/servery facility 80 sq ft
Coat/boot area for 20 people 150 sq ft
Storage for craft materials 50 sq ft
Clean-up and prep area 60 sq ft
Storage for 5 tables and 50 chairs 80 sq ft
Total additional space needs 420 sq ft
Space Required for 50 people in meeting format 600 sq ft
Minimum Space Required for Multi- purpose Room 1,000 sq ft
